Privacy Policy
Your data is yours. This policy explains, plainly, what we collect and why — and the real control you have over all of it. We never sell your data.

Your data, in your hands
Two things you can do yourself, any time, right from Settings — no forms, no waiting on us.
Export your data
In Settings, choose to export your data. We put together a copy of your information for you to download and keep. It's your right, and it's built in.
Delete your account
In Settings, you can delete your account. It's real and permanent — your profile and personal data are removed, not quietly kept behind a deactivation.

Who we are
Lovio is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. We decide how and why your data is used, and we are responsible for protecting it. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have over your information. If you have any questions, you can reach us through the Help centre.

The data we collect
To provide Lovio, we collect:
- Account data — the details you give when you sign up, such as your name, date of birth (to confirm you are 18 or over), and login credentials.
- Profile data — your bio, interests, intentions, and the preferences you set for who you'd like to meet.
- Photos — the images you upload, including your verification selfie, which is reviewed by a person.
- Location — an approximate location, and, if you allow it, a more precise location used to calculate distance. Your precise location is never shared with other members — they only ever see a rounded, approximate distance.
- Messages — the conversations you have with your matches.
- Usage data — how you use the app and technical details such as device and log information, used to keep the service working and safe.
- 03
Why we use your data, and our legal bases
We use your data for these purposes, on these legal bases:
- To provide the service — creating your profile, showing you matches, and enabling chat. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
- To keep you safe — human photo review, verification, report handling, blocking, and screening for scams and harm. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a safe community, and our legal obligations.
- To improve matching — suggesting people who fit your intentions and interests. Legal basis: performance of our contract and our legitimate interest in a good service.
- To handle payments — where you subscribe. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
- To meet legal duties — where the law requires us to keep or disclose certain information. Legal basis: compliance with a legal obligation.
Where we rely on your consent — for example, to use precise location — you can withdraw that consent at any time in Settings.
- 05
How long we keep it
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data — this is real and permanent. In limited cases we may retain certain information for a short period where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to resolve disputes or keep the community safe, after which it is deleted.
- 06
Your rights
Under data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access and export your data — you can download a copy in Settings.
- Delete your account and data — in Settings, real and permanent.
- Rectify inaccurate data — you can correct your details at any time.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it.
- Complain to a supervisory authority — in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission (DPC).
You can exercise the main rights yourself in your data settings. For anything else, contact us through the Help centre and we'll assist.
- 07
International transfers
Your data is hosted in the EU. Where any data is transferred outside the EU — for example, to a service provider — we put appropriate safeguards in place, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, so that your data keeps the protection it has under EU law.
- 08
Children
Lovio is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. It is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we remove it and delete the associated data.
- 09
How we keep your data secure
We protect your data with encryption in transit, strict access controls that limit who can see it, and a human review pipeline for photos, verification, and reports. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to protect your information and to respond quickly if anything goes wrong.
